The Ultimate Guide to Thanksgiving when living in Briar Chapel

This ultimate guide is stuffed full of our tips and tricks for hosting Thanksgiving when owning a home in Briar Chapel, from where to get your Thanksgiving dinner to where to go Black Friday shopping.

Entertaining your guests

Tune into the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade or your favorite NFL team’s game and pop open a bottle of wine or organize a game of tennis or pickleball at the Courts at Boulder Point to entertain your guests before dinner.

The most important part: Thanksgiving dinner

If you are planning on cooking at home, our new Food Lion located right here in the community is the perfect one-stop-shop for everything on your grocery list (and a lifesaver when you realize you forgot the one essential ingredient for your grandma’s stuffing).

If you aren’t planning on cooking this year, there are a few local restaurants offering Thanksgiving meals for dine-in or carry-out, including The Root Cellar and The Carolina Inn.

Local Turkey Trots

It’s a tradition for many to Turkey Trot, and there are several Thanksgiving races near Briar Chapel this year, including the Gallop & Gorge 8K, the New Balance Thanksgiving Day 8K/5K, the TROSA Turkey Trot 5K and the Skinny Turkey Half-Marathon, to name a few.

If you want to spend some active time outside while staying close to home, our 10+ miles of walking, hiking and biking trails are full of gorgeous autumn leaves and colors this time of year!

Giving back in the community

It’s the season of giving, and volunteering is a great Thanksgiving activity to appreciate all there is to be thankful for while giving back to your community. There are a few places in the Triangle where you can sponsor a family’s Thanksgiving meal or volunteer on Thanksgiving Day, including The Triangle Nonprofit & Volunteer Leadership Center and Durham Rescue Mission.

Black Friday shopping

Thanksgiving is also known for Black Friday sales, and when living in Briar Chapel, The Streets at Southpoint, a shopping mall with a wide selection of designer and premium brands, is only 25 miles away. The Streets at Southpoint will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Black Friday so you can start your holiday shopping and score the biggest deals of the year.

College Football rivalries

Like most college football rivalries, it is tradition for UNC Chapel Hill and NC State University to compete the weekend after Thanksgiving, and this year the two teams will face-off at the Kenan Memorial Stadium, just under 20 minutes from Briar Chapel, on Black Friday.

There’s so much to enjoy in and around the community, no matter the time of year. Learn more about what you’ll discover when living in Briar Chapel here.
