10 Halloween Activities in Chapel Hill, N.C.

  1. Halloween at the Farm: 1870 Farm, October 16-31

This kid-friendly trick-or-treating event has pumpkins, animals in costume, haunted gemstone mining and more! Each ticket is $18 and includes two-hour access to the farm to explore, feed for the animals, a small pumpkin or gourd, a decorating kit for each child, hands-on time with the farm animals and, of course, trick-or-treating! You can also add a gem bag for spooky gemstone mining for $10 and the children’s book “Penelope Plants a Pumpkin” for $18. Donate non-perishable food for PORCH Chapel Hill and paint your pumpkin for free! 

  1. P&C Holiday Lights Halloween Haunt: Briar Chapel, 38 Bennett Ridge Road, October 25-31

Here in Briar Chapel, a local family is once again putting together a spooktacular Halloween display in their front yard, complete with lights and animatronics. This spot is also best-known for their P&C Holiday Lights display, so come on by in December, too! 

  1. Carve Pumpkins with Goats: Spring Haven Farm, October 1-31, Every day except Monday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

First goat yoga, now carving pumpkins with goats?! Spring Haven Farm is all decorated for Halloween and ready to carve some jack-o’-lanterns! You can select your own pumpkin from the patch then head to the goat pasture to carve it. All the carving supplies are available for you to use. As you scoop out the goop, let the goats have a nibble, or bag the pumpkin seeds to take home for yourself!

Aside from the goats, you can also meet Peppa Pig, Anne the Donkey, Flint the Horse and more farm friends. Other activities include the Tractor Train Express, the Haunted Farm Maze and having your fortune read in the witch’s hut. There is also a craft station run by a local artist with pots to paint and birdhouses to design and build. 

Tickets must be purchased online prior to the event. Admission is $13.50 per person and pumpkins are $8 to $16, depending on the size. Kids ages three and under are admitted for free.

  1. Halloween Music Bingo: Southern Community Park, October 29, 6-8 p.m.

Kick off the Halloween weekend with Halloween music bingo! Instead of numbers, bingo cards will have Halloween-themed and current trending song titles and artists. Registration is required but the event is free and open to people of all ages.

  1. This is Halloween Wine and Design: October 27, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Happy Hallo-wine! Come out and enjoy the boos while painting your very own “This is Halloween” painting! No artistic talent is necessary, Wine & Design guides you step by step while you enjoy your favorite snacks and beverages! Click here to purchase tickets. 

  1. Halloween at Honeysuckle: The Honeysuckle Tea House, October 30, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Arty Party and Honeysuckle Tea House will be teaming up for a morning of Halloween arts and crafts! Kids will enjoy painting a Halloween ceramic figure, coloring and decorating a trick or treat bag, mixing up some spooky slime and more! Costumes are welcomed! Click here to purchase tickets.

  1. Fall Festival: The Chapel, October 30, 4-6 p.m.

Eat, drink and be scary at this year’s Fall Festival! This free festival includes a variety of activities and treats such as pony rides, games, prizes, Maple View ice cream truck, candy, apple cider and more!

  1. Trunk or Treat Festival: Chatham County Parks and Recreation, Northeast District Park, October 30, 2-5 p.m.

Halloween fun for the smallest of ghouls! This free, outdoor event will include pumpkin carving, pumpkin painting, Halloween games, Halloween crafts and a photo booth from 2-4 p.m. and Trunk or Treat at 5 p.m.!

  1. Morehead Planetarium and Science, October 30, 6-7 p.m.

This Halloween version of the Morehead classic star show will teach you about stars, constellations and celestial events through legends from ancient cultures featuring monsters, mayhem and madness! 

  1. Date Night: Buzzed to the Bones Wine and Design: October 30, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
