Briar Chapel Receives National “Best Neighborhood” Award

We’re thrilled and humbled to be named a 2019 “Best Neighborhood” by Where to Retire Magazine. This is a designation featuring only six communities nation-wide each year!

Many residents choose Briar Chapel as their “forever home,” because it is a destination filled with friends, activities, acres of open space and possibilities for connection. (We’ve even seen three generations of families move to our community together!) Thank you for nestling down in Briar Chapel and making it the beloved community it is today.

Briar Chapel Honored by Where to Retire Magazine

Houston, TX – Briar Chapel, located in Chapel Hill, NC, has been awarded a Best Neighborhood designation by Where to Retire, the only magazine in America geared toward helping people with retirement relocation decisions. The award recognizes outstanding master-planned and active-adult communities. A profile of the development is in the November/December 2019 issue, available nationwide now.

Where to Retire Editor Annette Fuller said Briar Chapel possesses qualities important to today’s retirees. “Located in North Carolina’s booming Triangle region, Briar Chapel is a serene oasis with 20 parks, miles of trails and plenty of preserved green space,” Fuller said. “Residents mingle at community events like open-air concerts, and the 55-plus section boasts its own clubhouse plus a packed schedule of field trips, fitness classes and more.”

A Best Neighborhood award winner is featured in each issue of Where to Retire. To be considered, the community has to be actively selling homes and have many or most amenities in place.

Retirement Relocation Trends

According to the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 700,000 Americans relocate to new towns in retirement each year. Generally, these relocating retirees are healthier, better educated and more affluent than those who choose to not relocate, and they bring significant economic benefits to their new states and hometowns.

Florida continues to reign as the No. 1 destination for retirement relocation, followed by Arizona, South Carolina and North Carolina. The most popular region is the Southeast, claiming eight of the 17 states showing increases in total net retiree migration. This research and the latest census data is detailed in Where to Retire’s four-part series on retirement relocation. Order these back issues online.
